Sync with Android

ou can sync files, contacts and your calendar from Office to your Android phone. Files are handled in the Nextcloud app, while contacts and calendar need the DAVx⁵ app.

Files:

  1. Install Nextcloud from Google Play or F-Droid.
  2. Open the app and enter the address of your Office installation.
  3. A browser opens where you sign in as usual. Grant access.
  4. Your files appear in the app. Press and hold a file and select Add to favorites to keep it synced and available without a connection.

Contacts and calendar:

  1. Install DAVx⁵ from Google Play or F-Droid.
  2. Open the Nextcloud app, go to Settings, More, and tap Sync calendar and contacts.
  3. DAVx⁵ opens a login window. Sign in and grant the app access.
  4. Enter an account name, preferably your email address, and set Contact group method to Groups are per-contact categories.
  5. Open DAVx⁵ again and tap the account. Grant access to your contacts and calendars.
  6. Choose which address books and calendars to sync.

If you do not use the Nextcloud app, you can add the account directly in DAVx⁵ with the plus button. Select Connection with URL and username, enter the address of your Office installation followed by /remote.php/dav as the base URL, your username, and an app password as the password.

Use your email address as the DAVx⁵ account name. It is required for sending calendar invitations.

The route through the Nextcloud app above handles the sign-in for you and needs no app password. Adding the account manually in DAVx⁵ does require one, because DAVx⁵ cannot then forward you to the usual sign-in page. Without an app password, DAVx⁵ reports an unknown resource error.

Create the app password under Settings, Security while signed in to Office in a browser, ideally one per device.

Subscribed calendars need a second app. What you add in Office with New subscription from link (read-only) is not a CalDAV calendar but a read-only link. DAVx⁵ lists it but cannot sync it.

To get your subscriptions on the phone, install ICSx⁵ alongside DAVx⁵. The two apps come from the same developer and complement each other: DAVx⁵ syncs your own calendars and contacts both ways, ICSx⁵ fetches read-only subscriptions.
