Share files and folders

You can share a file or folder with individual people, or open it up with a link.

Share with a person:

  1. Click the three-dot menu next to the file or folder and select Share.
  2. Enter the person’s name or email address and pick them from the list.
  3. Choose a role:
  • Reader can view only.
  • Editor can view and edit content.
  • Administrator can also manage who has access.
  • Owner has full control and can delete.
  1. Confirm with Share.

Share with a link:

  1. Open Share the same way.
  2. Choose how far the link reaches:
  • Private means only invited people get in.
  • Connected lets in anyone who is signed in.
  • Public lets in anyone with the link.
  1. Click Copy link and send it.

Sharing a folder shares everything in it. Access is inherited downwards, so someone who is an Editor on the folder is an editor on every file inside. To lower access for a single file you have to change the parent folder instead, which Drive points out as well.

Files and folders others have shared with you are under Shared with me in the left panel.
