Create a topic

You start a discussion by creating a new topic in the category that fits.

1. Sign in to Forum with your username and password.
2. Go to the category that best fits your topic.
3. Click New Topic.
4. Write a title that sums up the question in one sentence.
5. Write your post in the text box.
6. Click Create Topic.

If you start from the right category, it is filled in for you. If you clicked New Topic from the front page, pick the category in the box next to the title.

While you write:

• Your topic is similar to… appears under the title if a thread on the same subject already exists. Click the suggestions before you publish, the question has often been answered already.
• Tags in the field next to the category make the topic easier to find. Some categories require at least one tag.
• The buttons above the text box format your text. You can also write Markdown directly, such as **bold** or a bullet list with hyphens.
• Click Upload or drag a file into the text box to attach an image or a document.
• Toggle preview shows how the post will look. On a wide screen the preview sits alongside as you type.

Your draft is saved automatically. If you close the composer or the browser, the text is still there and you can carry on where you left off next time you open Forum.
