Organise your email

Mail gives you four ways to stay organised: folders, tags, snoozed messages and filters that sort automatically.

Create a folder:

1. Hover over your email account in the left panel and click the three-dot menu.
2. Select Add folder.
3. Type a name in the Folder name field and confirm.

To put a folder inside another one, open the three-dot menu on the existing folder and select Add subfolder. If Mail only shows some of your folders, select Show all folders in the account’s three-dot menu.

Move a message:

1. Click the three-dot menu next to the message.
2. Select Move message.
3. Pick a folder under Choose target folder.

Tag and favourite:

1. Open the three-dot menu on a message and select Edit tags.
2. Pick an existing tag, or type a name to create a new one.

The tags Work, To Do, Personal and Later are there from the start. They can be renamed but not deleted. Your own tags get a random colour that you can change in the tag menu.

The star icon on a message marks it as a Favorite. Favourites are collected in their own view in the left panel.

Snooze a message:

1. Open the three-dot menu on the message.
2. Select Snooze and set how long.

The message moves to a folder of its own and returns to the inbox when the time is up. Useful for things you cannot deal with now but do not want to forget.

Sort automatically with filters:

The easiest way is to start from a message you want sorted:

1. Open the message and click the three-dot menu.
2. Select More actions and then Create mail filter.
3. Tick which details the filter should match on, such as subject or sender.
4. Click Create mail filter.

You can also build a filter from scratch under Account settings, Filters, New filter. There you set the Conditions and what should happen under Actions.

A condition can match exactly, contain a word, or use * as a wildcard. A filter runs on incoming mail, not on messages already sitting in your inbox.
